Smart Time
Management: The Story of How
Followup.com.sg Began
In 2005, a sales account
manager was mailing out
Christmas cards to thank
past customers for their
valued patronage. They knew
that in order to remain
successful in a competitive
market they had to continue
go the distance in building
a lasting rapport and
business relationship with
past customers and
affiliates.
But, as any successful
businessperson knows,
success often equals greater
workloads and more
responsibilities. At the
same time, clientele
maintenance tasks could not
be neglected or future
business could go elsewhere.
So the founder of Followup
kept up with the card
campaign as well as the
growing number of other
responsibilities.
Hard Work Pays Off
Before long, the
card-mailing campaign began
to bear fruit, as many
customers called or sent
emails to say thank you for
card and touching gesture.
Customer relationships were
improved and referrals were
even given. Clearly, sending
well-timed and appropriate
event cards proved to be
both affordable and
effective.
Building upon success, this
salesperson decided to take
the mailing campaign to a
higher level by sending
cards to remind customers to
renew their annual
maintenance contracts.
Accomplishing this on time
and without error proven to
be a tremendously
time-consuming task as
expiring contracts need to
be individually tracked on a
periodic basis and cards
need to be prepared. The
salesperson simply could not
find enough time in the
growing hectic sales
schedules.
Working Smarter - Not
Harder
Though the follow-up card
campaign was clearly paying
out high dividends, the
responsibility ate a great
deal of a valuable commodity
- time. First, cards had to
be selected and purchased
that were specifically
appropriate to the client
and the event, as well as
envelops and stamps. Then,
each card had to be properly
addressed to the individual.
After that, all the mailing
addresses had to be
retrieved and written on
envelopes. Finally, after
all these tasks were done,
the cards can be mailed.
There had to be a more
efficient way to accomplish
this vital job.
There was no software in the
market that can perform an
automated function of
printing personalized
messages on cards and
mailing labels. So, in 2005
this sales account manager
decided to start a web-based
service that can send
personalized greeting and
reminder cards to customers
automatically and
Followup.com.sg was born.
